Neolithic Maltese Sleeping fat lady 4000-2000BC

On holiday in Malta in 2023 I was lucky enough to visit this tiny sculpture in Valetta.

She struck me as so beautiful and tactile and full of love that she has become a constant source of inspiration to me.

When at the museum in Valetta I also discovered the other fat lady sculptures. I’m very drawn to their exaggerated thighs and arms, voluptuous folds on their tummies and small hands.

I was also surprised to see their heads could be removed as creating goddess bottles with removable heads had been something I’d been experimenting with for a couple of years.

I’m sure this influence will continue in my works going forward but I have included some images here of my work that relate to the Maltese fat ladies
